A section of Coast politicians has told off ODM leader Raila Odinga following his remarks that formation of a Coast based political party will undermine national unity.
United Summit Party of Kenya secretary general Naomi Cidi has called Raila’s remarks baseless and violate democratic values.
She said Raila who embodies the fight for democracy in the country should not utter words that denigrate a party or a certain wing.
“I think we should just ignore his sentiments. Am surprised Raila is against formation of coast party yet he is among the champions of democracy and multi-party in Kenya,” she said.
According to Cidi, Coast region has the right to chart its own political path including forming a party.
She further added that time is up for politicians using Coast region as a stepping stone to their ambitions.
The party’s chairman, Matano Chengo, also dismissed Raila’s remarks, urging him to resolve the ODM party’s woes before criticizing other parties.
“We will continue to work to unite the coast and the nation as a whole through the USPK party which has its roots here in Coast”, he said.
